Keeping mods working after a Hytale update

Reviewed October 26, 2026 1 min read

Hytale is in Early Access and updates often. Each update can change what mods rely on, so a mod that worked yesterday can fail after an update.

A routine for every update

  1. Back up first

Take a backup from the panel before the server updates.

  2. Update, then read the console

After the update, start the server and watch for mod errors.

  3. Remove what breaks

Move failing mods out of mods/ so the server can start, and tell your players which features are paused.

  4. Reinstall updated versions

When the authors publish updates, replace the old files and restart.

Worth knowing

You can't simply stay on the old version: client and server must be on the exact same protocol version, so players who updated their game can't join an outdated server.
