Java memory (-Xmx) and jvm.options on Hytale

Reviewed October 26, 2026 1 min read

The Hytale server is a Java program, and Java's -Xmx parameter sets the maximum memory it may use. Hypixel's manual suggests experimenting with that value to set explicit limits.

What the official manual says

  • Without specialised tooling, it's hard to tell how much allocated RAM a Java process actually needs.
  • A typical symptom of memory pressure is higher CPU usage caused by garbage collection.
  • The official launch scripts read custom JVM arguments from a jvm.options file: one argument per line, lines starting with # are comments.

On our servers

Memory is tied to your plan and the startup command is managed by the panel. If you want to add your own JVM arguments, ask support first so they don't conflict with how your server is started.

Memory pressure looks like CPU trouble

If CPU usage climbs and the server stutters while RAM sits near the limit, the garbage collector is working overtime. Lowering view distance or moving to a bigger plan helps more than any JVM flag.
