If you edit a configuration file and your change is gone after a while, the server overwrote it. That's expected behaviour, and easy to avoid.
Why it happens
According to the official manual, configuration files (config.json, permissions.json and the rest) are read when the server starts and written to when in-game actions happen, for example when permissions are assigned with commands. A manual change made while the server is running is likely to be overwritten.
The safe way
- Stop the server
Use the panel's Stop button and wait until it's fully off.
- Edit the file
Use the panel's file manager or SFTP. Keep the JSON valid: a missing comma or quote can stop the server from reading it.
- Start the server
The new values are read on startup.
Make a copy of the file (for example config.json.bak) before changing it. If the server won't start afterwards, you can put the original back.
