Getting startedHytale has been in Early Access since January 13, 2026. The game changes with every update, and its server software changes with it. That has practical consequences for anyone running a server.
What to expect
- Client and server must be on exactly the same protocol version. When an update comes out, the server has to update too, or players on the new version cannot join.
- Mods can break after a game update until their authors update them.
- The official manual lists features that are still coming, such as server discovery, parties and SRV record support.
Keep a backup before every update
An update you can roll back is an update you don't have to fear. Take a backup from the panel before updating, especially if you run mods.
Worth knowing
Hypixel has announced a tolerance of ±2 protocol versions between client and server as «coming soon». Until then, updating promptly is the only way to keep everyone connected.
