Why players exploring alone uses more memory

Reviewed October 26, 2026 1 min read

Ten players building in one town and ten players each exploring in a different direction are very different loads. The official manual lists «players exploring independently» as a RAM driver.

What's happening

Each player keeps the area around them loaded. When players are together, their areas overlap and the server loads that region once. When they spread out, each one needs their own region in memory, and new terrain has to be generated as they move.

What you can do

  • Keep the view distance reasonable; it multiplies the effect.
  • Plan for your group's style: a group that loves exploring needs more memory than one that builds together.
  • Use a dynamic view-distance plugin such as Nitrado:PerformanceSaver if usage spikes when people spread out.
